Housing Support and Advice
National Homelessness Advice Service are open Monday – Friday 9-6 for calls (on 0300 330 0517) or webchat (nhas.org.uk) to give advice on the following:
- Housing benefits
- Universal Credit housing costs
- Universal Credit basic eligibility and entitlement checks
- Possession actions
There is also lots of advice on their website, whatever your housing situation: https://www.nhas.org.uk/member-of-the-public
We are aware that family relationships can get strained during this time. If you or your children are feeling unsafe though, it is acceptable to leave your home. These organisations can help with advice on how to keep you and your children safe if you are worried.
Help with Food
If you cannot afford to buy food, you can get help from a foodbank near you. You can find your nearest foodbank run by the Trussel Trust on this website: https://www.trusselltrust.org/get-help/find-a-foodbank/
They can’t be used if you’re self-isolating and just can’t get out to buy food, but can provide help if you cannot afford to feed your family.
Community Support Groups
There are lots of new groups set up to help connect communities to support each other during the Coronavirus pandemic. You can post on your local group to ask members of the community to help with specific items. Find your local group here:
These groups can be helpful if you are self-isolating and need some help getting food or other essentials delivered to you.
Keeping Healthy During Coronavirus
It’s really important that we keep physically and mentally healthy during this time, even though we’re staying in.
There are some great resources for healthy bodies for you and your children on these sites:
