Volunteer with us
Our volunteers are our lifeblood at Little Village. They have enabled us to keep our doors open throughout the pandemic. The 350+ people who make up our community bring solidarity and kindness to our work. It’s a brilliant way to meet new people, to learn new skills, and to make a real and direct difference in your local community. We offer volunteering opportunities to both individuals and corporate teams, and we are currently looking for new volunteers to support our work.
If you want to make a real difference in your community, there are lots of different ways you can volunteer with us. Apart from helping other families, we know that there are so many positive benefits to volunteering, including getting out of the house and meeting new people in a fun and friendly environment, learning new skills and gaining confidence and self-esteem. We know how busy life can be, so we have many flexible volunteering options available. All volunteering takes place in line with government safety regulations on Covid-19. Some of our opportunities involve:
Volunteering at one of our sites, sorting donations and packing up gift bundles for families
Driving stock and delivering items to families
Remote roles (for example, stock sorting at home, eBay selling, telephone liaison)
We love to host corporate volunteering sessions, which are safe, fun, satisfying and productive. Getting groups of staff to volunteer together builds skills, such as teamwork, communications and negotiation. And it shows your staff and potential employees that you're a company who cares. Volunteering with us helps us to reach more families. And it helps your team members to learn more about their local community and understand what it means to give kids a great start in life.
How does it work?
We provide a relaxed environment where you can bond as a team! We will work with you to ensure tasks are appropriate, we’ll brief you at the start of the day and we will support you throughout your time with us.
What sort of jobs will corporate teams do?
It depends on the week (!!) but jobs can include checking and sorting donations, packing up gift bundles for families and making up toiletry packs.
When can teams volunteer and how long would a session last?
Currently, we can only offer team volunteering at our Balham site, during term times, Tuesday–Thursday. Sessions are half days, 9.30 a.m.-1 p.m. for small groups.
What should we wear?
Wear practical clothing and footwear that you will be comfortable in.
Do we need to pay?
We ask companies for a donation of £250 per session. These donations ensure that we can keep our doors open and purchase essentials such as new bottle teats and cot mattresses. If your company does not have funds for volunteering, then please do let us know and we can discuss a way to ensure we can still work together.
Can I bring along donations?
Yes please! Please check what items we are currently able to accept and how to prepare your donations.
