The Duchess of Cambridge’s new initiative supports work of Little Village

We are thrilled to be part of a new initiative launched by the Duchess of Cambridge helping to bring British brands together to support the work of three baby banks.

We are honoured that the Duchess has chosen Little Village to be one the three charities, including Baby Basics and AberNecessities who will receive donated items from the brands.

The Duchess of Cambridge spoke to two of the wonderful mums’ Little Village has supported, Amy and Ella-Mae, via a Zoom call from a baby bank in Sheffield, as well as meeting Sophia, our Chief Executive in person.

Support for our work is needed more than ever, as our new survey launched today reveals.   Our research exploring the impact of the pandemic on the operations of 50+ baby banks around the UK finds that:

  • Nearly 9 in 10 of the baby banks surveyed say children living in poverty will go without essentials such as nappies as a direct result of the pandemic.
  • Nearly 8 in 10 say they need more nappies, mattresses and other products that can’t be given out second hand.
  • Nearly 9 in 10 say the crisis is making it harder to support families in the way they would want.
  • 8 in 10 say children living in poverty will go hungry.
  • 7 in 10 say children living in poverty will fall behind in developmental/educational terms.

Child poverty is projected to rise by 2023/2024 and we’re deeply concerned the pandemic is set to make an already bad situation much worse.  Find out more about our survey results here.
