Brent baby bank celebrates first birthday

Little Village’s Brent baby bank is set to celebrate its first birthday on 24th November.

Little Village staff will be joined by Councillor Abdi Aden, the Mayor of Brent, along with families it has supported, volunteers, and other local supporters.

Little Village is a charity that runs a baby bank network across London. It supports families with babies and children under five living in poverty and provides the essentials families need for their children, including clothing, buggies, cots, toys and nappies.

Since being set up, the Brent baby bank has gifted around 1000 bundles of clothing to local families needing support. Over 50 local people have joined as regular volunteers.

The baby bank is on the ground floor of UNCLE Wembley on Park Lane. Residential rental company, UNCLE gifted the space to Little Village on a ten-year lease.

In June 2022 the baby bank was visited by The Princess of Wales, who helped a family to choose items for their young children.

Baby Bank Manager, Renata Acioli, said:

“This has been an eventful year for us, as well as receiving a Royal visitor, we’ve provided hundreds of families with thousands of pieces of clothing and equipment. Each week we meet families in need of a bit of support and it’s incredible to be able to help.

“We couldn’t carry out this work without our volunteers, who I am so thankful for. We are always in need of more volunteers, so if you have any time to spare, please sign up and help us to sort and pack donations, and meet the families coming in.

“If you have any clothes or equipment for babies and under-fives, please consider donating it to us. The cost-of-living crisis is having a terrible impact on families in poverty and we are more busy than ever.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last year, we are all so grateful.”

Ryan Prince, UNCLE Founder and CEO, said:

“I created UNCLE to treat renters with a genuine sense of dignity and humanity, one resident, one home and one neighbourhood at a time. I can’t imagine a better partner in bringing that vision to life for all residents in Wembley and beyond. We’re thrilled to be hosting Little Village and look forward to supporting their great work at UNCLE Wembley.”

Items can be donated to Little Village Brent Monday-Friday, 10am-3pm.
