Volunteer FAQs

What will I be doing as a volunteer?

Activities can change depending on where you’re based or what role you do, but there’s always something to keep you busy.

On-site volunteering – working at one of our hubs, these regular volunteers help to sort incoming donations, prepare gift bundles and welcome families. See our activities list for more information.

Homebased – talking to families over the telephone to understand their situations, helping to make sure they’re accessing all the support available to them. These roles are more in-depth so require training, two references, and a DBS check before you start.

Drivers – on the road, these volunteers will help deliver our gifts directly to families in their homes or help to distribute stock.

Volunteering is a brilliant way to meet new people, to learn new skills, and to make a real and direct difference in the local community.

Where can I volunteer?

Volunteers are welcomed at all of our sites. We currently have three Baby Banks in the boroughs of Brent, Camden and Wandsworth, who all support families each week.

The two available onsite roles are Baby Bank Helper and Pick and Pack.

If you choose to volunteer in a remote role, as part of our Family Connections or Signposting and Guidance teams, you can do it from your home.

If you become one of our Delivery Drivers, you will collect items at our warehouse in Wandsworth.

When can I volunteer?

That very much depends on where you’d like to volunteer. Each of our sites run slightly different times and days but mostly, between 9.30am – 16:00 within the week. There are also a few evening sessions, and a Saturday session (in Camden only).

Home based roles can be slightly more flexible, with sessions available from Monday to Thursday (daytime only).

How often will I volunteer?

We ask volunteers to sign-up for a regular shift either weekly or fortnightly. As we’re a relatively small charity still, help from our volunteers really is invaluable. We plan many of our activities each week based on who is coming in, this means a regular shift is the most useful to us.

How can I sign up?

You can access more information and an application form for each of our volunteer roles by heading back to this page. Completing an application will give you the opportunity to let us know which role you are interested in and little bit more about yourself.  One of our team will then be in touch to set you up ready to get started.

I want to volunteer with a team of colleagues, can we do that?

Yes, absolutely. We work with lots of organisations across London who come in to help at our sites. It’s a great way to work as a team off-site whilst being hands-on and helping to support our families.
